Chico Community Children’s Center 

  • The Fruits and Veggies for Life  Program encourages healthy diet through enhanced nutrition education to children and families that promote increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Garden-based nutrition education and taste testing at two preschool sites using approved materials 1 X each week for 40 weeks = 40 classes reaching 60-70 children.  In addition parents will receive nutrition education materials along with taste testing correlating with the children’s education.  Approximately 70 Calfresh eligible families inclusive of 60+ children  

 

Colusa County Office of Education, Children's Services

  • Provide interactive nutrition education and physical activity promotion to low-income families in Colusa County. Conduct nutrition education workshops (1 X/month for 10 months = 10 classes) and a variety of physical activity demonstrations at monthly parent meetings.  Workshops will include cooking demonstrations, introduce fruits and vegetables, distribute nutrition and physical activity promotion materials along with taste testing, activities.The center estimates activities to approximately 500 Calfresh, WIC and Head Starteligible families inclusive of 300+ children.

The Network for a Healthy California-Sierra-Cascade Region lead agency will administer a mini-grant program that reflects the characteristics listed below:

  • Disburse funds according to priorities, criteria and process determined and approved by the Network for a Healthy California lead agency and CPNS.

 

  • Provide grants up to $5,000 per grant for the purpose of responding to opportunities or challenges within the region, assist the Regional Collaborative advocacy initiative, fill unmet needs, and support the overall goals of the Network.
