PHI Funding Alert: Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Participants and Program Characteristics -The Office of Research and Analysis (ORA) in the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is seeking a contractor to conduct a descriptive study of the characteristics of the SFSP at the State, sponsor and site levels, as well as the families' decisions to participate in SFSP. It will draw heavily on and update the methods and findings from the 2003 Economic Research Service (ERS) study "Feeding Low-Income Children When School Is Out - The Summer Food Service Program." Interested parties must submit as part of their capability statements a description of staff experience and skills.

Healthy School Makeover Contest
To support National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, SPARK has teamed-up with other leading health and physical education organizations to provide a nationwide Healthy School Makeover Contest, with the winner receiving a grand prize worth $45,000 in educational materials, training, and equipment!
Just submit a short video explaining why your school needs a healthy school makeover and how you'll use the Grand Prize award to improve the health of your students. Our partner and Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam will present the grand prize to the winning school!

Grants
Approximately $243,000 in funding is available to support grant awards in the range of $2,500 to $20,000. It is estimated that the average award amount will be $15,000 for 16 grants. Applications are due by September 19, 2012.
These grants are made possible through a partnership between the National Environmental Education Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
We are pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for our critical youth outreach and education work. Built in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), and led by our good partners, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), this funding opportunity will provide small grants (<$20,000) to partnership projects that connect kids with nature through recreation, learning and stewardship on our public lands.
The America's Great Outdoors: Connecting Youth with Nature 2012 grants are an important contribution to our efforts to link youth with their treasured public lands. Responsive to President Obama's America's Great Outdoors initiative, these funds may help you reach more youth, build new partnerships, or sustain and grow existing efforts to connect kids with nature. Together with the earlier NFWF AGO: Nurturing the Next Generation of Conservationists granting program that supports youth employment in conservation, these new funding opportunities engage our Congressionally-chartered foundations in supporting our critical youth outreach and engagement efforts.
Forest Service units are eligible to receive these funds, as are organizations that partner with FS and/or BLM units - all proposals must document at least a 1:1 non-federal match for grant funds requested. The attached RFP, news release, and NEEF program website http://www.neefusa.org/grants/connecting_youth.htm provide helpful information to consider this opportunity, and to prepare a strong proposal. GRANT ANNOUCEMENT 2013 NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH
SAMUEL D. HARRIS AWARD
As a result of a generous contribution from Dr. Samuel D. Harris, the American Dental Association and Oral Health America have established the Samuel D. Harris National Children’s Dental Health Month Award. This award recognizes and rewards programs that demonstrate the advancement of dentistry for children through efforts that provide oral health benefits to the public and the profession during National Children’s Dental Health Month.
Goal: The goal of the 2013 National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) Samuel D. Harris Award is to execute a competitive funding process whereby eligible organizations (as defined below) apply for grant support exclusively for oral health awareness and education programs during NCDHM.
This grant opportunity encourages eligible organizations to provide oral health awareness and education during February 2013 for pre-school aged children and/or K-12 grades (children 5-17 years of age).
Dollar Amount Available: For this grant cycle, up to two grants will be given from a total of $4,000 in grant funds. Applicants are encouraged to leverage matching funds for the requested grant amount. Oral Health America (OHA), who oversees the fund, reserves the right to increase or decrease cash awards based on applications received in future cycles.
Eligible Organizations: State (constituent) and local (components) dental societies of the ADA and/or community-based organizations providing oral health education to pre-school aged and school-aged children. Program entries are limited to those conducting programs specifically for National Children’s Dental Health Month which will be observed in February 2013.
Special consideration will be given to those applicants that identify the school(s) they plan to work with during NCDHM February 2013 and include a letter of support from the school administrator(s).
Evaluation: A grant review committee consisting of Oral Health America (OHA), the American Dental Association (ADA) and a representative of the Samuel D. Harris family will evaluate all applications and ranked them based on the below criteria.
